Suzi Brown Photography | Artist Spotlight by @608Carver

Updated: Dec 17, 2025

Suzi Brown Photography is a professional newborn photography studio known for timeless imagery, safety-focused care, and heartfelt storytelling. Based in Louisiana, Suzi Brown combines technical expertise with doula training to capture newborn moments filled with love, connection, and emotion. In this @608Carver Artist Spotlight, we explore the journey, style, and passion behind Suzi Brown Photography.

Photography wasn’t always part of Suzi Brown’s plan. In fact, it was something she actively avoided. Cameras felt complicated. The buttons were intimidating. The technical side seemed overwhelming. Photography simply didn’t call to her — until one life-changing trip shifted everything.

While traveling through India with a close friend, Wendy, a magazine photographer, Suzi was surrounded by beauty in its rawest form — new sights, unfamiliar sounds, vibrant culture, and deeply human moments. What struck her most wasn’t just the experience itself, but the way her travel companions captured it. Their images felt powerful, emotional, and unforgettable. That was the moment something clicked.

When Suzi returned home, she bought her first Nikon camera. The moment she pressed that first button, she was hooked. What started as curiosity instantly turned into passion.

Then, unexpectedly, the world stopped.

When COVID shut down travel, however, Suzi turned her lens closer to home. She began focusing on the beauty of Louisiana — the quiet moments, the emotion, and the stories unfolding right in front of her. During this season, Suzi Brown Photography found its true calling in newborn photography.

Finding Her Calling in Newborn Photography

As a result, newborn photography gave Suzi Brown Photography something deeper than artistic fulfillment — it gave purpose. Suzi immersed herself in education, attending workshops, studying industry leaders, and committing to newborn safety training.

Her influences include well-known newborn photographers Kelly Brown, Ana Brandt, and Johna of ThreeJs. Through workshops and educational programs, Suzi refined her skills while developing a style grounded in emotion and connection. Rather than copying another artist’s work, Suzi Brown Photography focused on building a clean, timeless approach centered on baby and family bonds.

She wanted images that would draw families back to the earliest days of their baby’s life — photographs that would remain meaningful decades from now.

A Newborn Photographer Rooted in Care and Safety

Suzi’s background as a DONA International certified doula and her experience in local mother/baby units strongly shape her approach as a newborn photographer. In addition, she holds certification with Professional Photographers of America (PPA), reinforcing her commitment to professionalism and safety.

Because of this training, Suzi Brown Photography prioritizes trust, education, and safe practices in every session. Families know their newborns receive care from someone who understands both photography and infant well-being.

Notably, Suzi also volunteers her services to photograph babies who have passed. While those images remain private, the experience has shaped her understanding of love, grief, and connection.

“These moments have shown me the deepest love families can experience,” she shares. “Being able to preserve that, even in loss, is an incredible honor.”

Inside the Suzi Brown Photography Studio Experience

From the first inquiry, Suzi focuses on listening. She learns what families envision and prepares every session with intention. Some families want baby-only portraits, while others hope for family images that capture connection.

Her studio reflects that same care. The space remains warm and softly lit, filled with white noise to mimic the comfort of the womb. Because newborns cannot regulate their body temperature, Suzi creates an environment that supports both comfort and safety.

Of course, newborn photography requires flexibility.

“Baby is boss,” Suzi explains. “Fostering a calm environment takes patience, experience, and understanding.”

Growth, Vision, and the Future of Suzi Brown Photography

Over time, photography has changed Suzi both personally and professionally. It has taught her to recognize beauty not only in images, but also in relationships and fleeting moments worth preserving.

Looking ahead, Suzi Brown Photography plans to expand into portrait painting. She currently explores pastel and watercolor newborn portraits and hopes to offer this multimedia artwork to families in the future.

Advice from a Professional Newborn Photographer

For anyone considering newborn photography, Suzi offers clear guidance: education matters. Safety matters. Understanding newborns matters.

“Newborn photography is more than taking pictures,” she says. “You must be educated, prepared, and intentional.”

The Legacy of Suzi Brown Photography

When families look back at their images years from now, Suzi hopes they feel one thing above all else — love.

Outside of photography, Suzi enjoys artwork, reading, and spending time with her family. Game nights, hiking, and shared experiences recharge her creativity and keep her grounded.
